Spud Kings Announce Return of Coaching Staff

For immediate release

Idaho Falls – The Dineen Cup Champion Idaho Falls Spud Kings announced a contract extension for their coaching staff on Wednesday afternoon.

Head Coach Anthony Bohn has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Spud Kings, tying him to the Spud Kings through the 2027/28 season. Bohn was named the NCDC Mountain Division Coach of the Year earlier this week, an award voted on by the division coaches.

Spud Kings General Manager Erik Hudson said, “Coming off an extremely successful year, we wanted to ensure that the future of the Spud Kings was in good hands. Coach Bohn exemplifies what Idaho Falls and the Spud Kings are about. Offering him a multi-year contract extension and bringing back our entire staff from last season is incredibly exciting. I am proud to have Anthony be our bench boss, and we’ll look to build on the success from 2025.”

“I’m grateful and humbled to re-sign with this fantastic organization, “ Said Bohn. “The organization and the people that are part of it make every day enjoyable to come to work.”

The Spud Kings have also agreed to contract renewals with Assistant Coach Joey Strada, Director of Player Development John Becanic, and Director of Goaltending Development Shane Clifford.

This will be the second season with the Spud Kings for Strada, who joined the Spud Kings staff after finishing his professional playing career.

“Joey has been great, and his ability to connect with every player is a huge factor for both the players and staff. His skill work with the players on an everyday basis has helped the development of every player,” said Bohn.

John Becanic joined the organization as the Interim Head Coach in January of 2024, leading a struggling team to a playoff birth. Following the 2023/24 season, Becanic stayed on the staff as the Director of Player Development.

“John means a lot to me and our organization. He’s one of the smartest hockey people I have ever come in contact with. His teaching and mentorship to the players has been an incredible contribution to our team on a daily basis, helping bring out the best in our on-ice product. I know our players value him, as do I,” said Bohn.
